Mesmero is a free site that suggests films and TV shows. This page says what we keep about you and why.
What we keep
- Your ratings, seen titles, watch list and hidden titles, to make suggestions. A guest's list is reached through a random session id in a cookie on that browser.
- Your email address and a hash of your password, if you make an account. We never store the password itself.
- A session cookie that keeps you signed in, and the date you last visited, so we know when a guest list is unused. Mesmero sets no other cookies and uses no advertising or tracking.
- Server logs: the time, method, page type (with title numbers removed), response code and duration of each request, and error details. Password resets also log your account id. Logs hold no ratings, passwords or reset links. Our host keeps them for a limited time.
- Your IP address, and the email you type when you log in or ask for a reset, in memory for up to an hour to stop abuse. They are not written to the database or the logs.
Imports
When you import from Letterboxd or IMDb, we read the files to find your titles and then discard them. We keep only the result: the ratings, seen titles and watch list entries that match our catalogue.
Who else handles data
- Railway hosts the site and the database.
- Resend sends password reset emails, so it receives your email address and the email itself, with its one-time link, when you ask for one.
- Cloudflare runs our domain and may handle your connection to the site, including your IP address.
We do not sell or share your data with anyone else. Our AI model reads film descriptions, never your data.
How long we keep it
An account stays until you delete it. A guest list that is not used for 90 days is deleted automatically.
Your rights
On your account page you can download everything you saved and delete your account at once. For anything else, write to [email protected]. Under UK GDPR you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
